Kids’ Sunday School
Each Sunday morning throughout the school year (mid-September through first Sunday of May), United Free Lutheran provides Sunday school for children ages 2 to 18 starting at 8:45 a.m. Everyone begins in the sanctuary for music and worship before splitting off into their classes. Children receive biblical teaching and also partake in crafts and/or games, and snacks. The classes ends at 9:50 a.m., just before the worship service starts at 10 a.m.
Children’s families do not need to be members of United Free Lutheran to participate in Sunday school. Everyone is welcome!
What are the kids learning?
Each Sunday school year is centered around selected themes. Students in the Littles class (ages 2-preschool) receive an introduction to the Bible and some of the most familiar historical accounts within it. For kindergartners through sixth graders, their years rotate through the Old Testament, New Testament, Apostle’s Creed, The Lord’s Prayer. The youth-age classes (7th through 12th graders) study a variety of topics determined by the teacher.
As previously mentioned, every Sunday school class is divided into four parts:
- Bible lesson: Sunday school always begins with a Bible lesson. These may include reading stories or passages within the Bible, watching short videos that depict biblical accounts, and/or using props to demonstrate lesson concepts and help the students connect with them.
- Singing: songs are used to get the students moving and worshiping God in a new way. Some of the songs include timeless hymns, old Sunday school favorites, and new tunes the students and teachers learn together.
- Craft and/or game (K-6th grade): crafts and games are used to reinforce the lesson of the day. The kids always bring their weekly craft home, so parents/guardians are encouraged to use the craft to ask their children questions about what they learned that day.
- Snack: snacks are provided to help the kids regain their energy and strength before attending the church service.
Sunday School Programs
The kids sing during the church worship service the third Sunday of every month, and also put on a Christmas Program for their families and the United congregation early December.
